Janine Mak, PT & Clinical Pilates Instructor
Janine is an active mother who was inspired by other women who pursued their dreams. After attending a course in Melbourne, Australia, Janine believed the Aussies have it right- preventative physiotherapy for women. Combined with her background in pediatric health, she felt that combining the two was the perfect solution: preventative health for both moms and babies.
Janine received her Bachelor of Physical Education at the University of Manitoba where she was first introduced to the world of exercise and science. This led her to pursue a career in physiotherapy by completing her degree at the University of Alberta. Janine worked at Calgary Youth Physiotherapy for 10 years where she loved working with adults, children and babies. Janine continued to further her education by completing a postgraduate course in Exercise for Women at the University of Melbourne in Australia, a course focusing on women throughout the lifespan from adolescence to post-menopause.
In March 2008, Janine was excited to introduce Owen to the family. This opened her eyes to a whole new world and to the new and exciting challenges of motherhood. Although having a child was one of the best things to happen to her, Janine realized that motherhood comes with its ups and downs. Maintaining an active lifestyle “kept me grounded, was a healthy form of stress release and made me feel good about myself”.
Janine was fortunate enough to have a background in physiotherapy and access to resources in women’s health. Having this knowledge was extremely valuable in her return to activity and she realized she wanted to share this knowledge with others.
Lucas was born in 2012. Janine took her Reformer Pilates certification following the birth of her second son and felt like the combination of physiotherapy and pilates was an invaluable way to regain her core after having two children.
After moving to Canmore in 2018, Janine felt like it was the perfect fit. With a strong focus on an active, outdoor lifestyle in the Bow Valley, she wanted to help women get back outside, doing the activities they love!
